The “Khinaliq” State History-Architecture and Ethnography Preserve was founded on December 19th 2007 by the order no. 2563 of President Ilham Aliyev. The target of this Preserve is to restore and protect the unique architecture of Khinaliq village, and to help the community to keep their traditions and their language alive, in order to transfer our cultural heritage to the next generation. Following this target, thanks to the support from the Minstry for Tourism and Culture, nearly one hundred historical houses, that were in a serious state of decay, were restored according to their original form in 2011. Moreover, the Abu Muslim Juma Mosque, the construction of which dates back to the end of the 9th – beginning of the 10th century, was in danger of collapsing. During the years 2012-2014, this Mosque was fully reconstructed and can now be used by the local community again. The Research on Khinaliq’s history, ethnography and language is still ongoing.
